At the Panlab, the creative hub of the Pannonians, Stony has embarked on a unique project: designing and crafting coins using advanced laser engraving technology. This work is not only a technical experiment but also a journey into history, as coins have served as cultural and symbolic artifacts for thousands of years.
A Grateful Acknowledgment
The project was made possible thanks to the invaluable support of “Gaius Iulius Caesar🌱@XCH_Caesar,” who provided the team with a professional laser, and the technical expertise of a close friend, ABS, who was instrumental in setting up and fine-tuning the equipment. “Without their help, I wouldn’t have been able to dive into this technology so quickly,” Stony explains. “I want to sincerely thank both of them—they made it possible for me to explore laser engraving so thoroughly.”
From Idea to Engraving
The early stages were not without challenges. “It was constant tweaking, a balancing act between experimentation and patience,” Stony recalls. Over time, the results have become increasingly precise, although there is always room for improvement.
The coin designs are as diverse as the laser’s capabilities. They range from organic and playful motifs to historical and entirely innovative imagery. “The only limits are your imagination and the feasibility of the technique,” Stony notes.
The Significance of Coins
Historically, coins were more than just currency; they served as messengers of culture and power. They bore the likenesses of rulers, celebrated military victories, or marked significant cultural events. Stony’s project brings this tradition into the modern era.
“I love working with metals—it’s deeply ingrained in me as a trained goldsmith,” Stony shares. “With laser engraving, I can now merge my craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. Coins are small works of art that can outlast generations. That’s what excites me: blending tradition with innovation to create something timeless. With these diverse designs, I can tell stories, convey emotions, and manifest ideas in a form that endures like no other. Thanks to this new knowledge, I can now envision projects in the near future that I wouldn’t have considered just a few months ago. It’s incredibly rewarding and motivates me to keep experimenting.”
The journey continues—and the coins emerging from the Panlab stand as a testament to how the past, present, and imagination can beautifully converge.
